I tried a new exercise class today, and it was this sort of combination of light weights, squats, and giant exercise ball stuff, plus a whole bunch of yoga-y stuff, and it made me feel like I want to sleep for like 9 straight days. I am ZONKED.
I know that’s a lame excuse for not giving you a lot of new stuff to look at today, but I can’t help it. I. Am. Tired.
There is no appropriate photo to go with this post, so here’s some bunny slippers in training.

That picture is seriously one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen!
So, personal question – how often do you work out, and do you follow a special eating plan or anything? I’d like to slim down a bit and since you’re in great shape I’d love some advice.
P.S. How in the world do you find time to work out what with being a full-time employee, mom, and owner of two blogs? Jeez, girl!
RoP – will you marry me?
Seriously – I try for 3x a week if at all possible. My new goal is 4, but that might prove to be an impossibility.
And despite that, I’m really not in that great of shape. I want to lose like 10 pounds and get rid of my belly, and have Actual Definition in my arms, which are currently a big ole flabfest.
The eating thing is what I suck at. I LOVE TO EAT. And naturally, the stuff I love to eat is totally awful for me. So I’m trying to get better, but it’s hard.
As far as time? I do zumba on Mon and Thurs eve, and Sat morning when I can. This new class I took last night is on Tues at 6ish. So we’ll see how often I can get to it. I didn’t love it like I love zumba, but it’s the only time I’ll ever get strength training in, so I’m going to try really hard to go to it.
Well, my momma always told me to never accept an internet proposal, so…
But really, that’s cool that you do Zumba. I’ve been interested in trying it but always feel so dorky dancing around alone to an exercise video, or too self-conscious to take a class where other people will see how dorky I am attempting to dance.
Have you ever seen the movie “Up” that has the dog that is constantly distracted by the squirrel? I swear when I was watching that video it was like watching a home movie of myself. When it comes to dieting and exercise, my attempts are always being thwarted by either my intense desire to people please, or my insanely high propensity towards being distracted.
Examples:
*walk over to my coworker, all proud I’ve been able to eat healthy for two whole days and not cave*
Coworker: “I have an extra potato cake/cookie/piece of pie. Do you want it?”
Me: “No thanks, I’m trying to watch my calo..”
Coworker, interrupting: “Oh please eat it, it’s so good/I’ll end up throwing it away/I’ll eat it myself and get sick.”
Me, sighing: “Okay.”
Or, I’ll get asked to go to lunch despite having brought my own healthy lunch, but since it’s been a while since I’ve hung out with that person, I’ll go to lunch with them.
I love food too. So freaking much.
And when it comes to exercise, that’s where my “Squirrel!” comes in to play.
My husband is a former college athlete and therefore went hog wild with our wedding gift funds to buy lots of fitness equipment. With a whole room full of gym equipment plus loads of fitness video games, I can get overwhelmed choosing something to do. One night I decided I should just quickly search google for the most efficient way to burn the most calories, but ZOMG there’s an ad for a one-day buy-one-get-one-free shoe sale!
I’ll keep getting distracted once I click on that link and before I know it, my stomach rumbles for me to feed it and my workout plans are shot.
Or, I’ll plan on exercising when I get home but walk in the door and step on a hairball that my cat so graciously left for me, then have to clean off my shoe, then find paper towels somewhere in the kitchen, then try to remember where I left my carpet cleaner, then stumble upon something I’d thought I’d lost while looking for the cleaner, and on and on until I find my tummy growling and have to eat supper.
I admire people who set goals and stick with them. Maybe one day that will be me.
I got permission to install a little exercise room at my firehouse, with a stair machine, universal gym, leg press, and a handful of free weights. Hardly anyone has used it, including me. I told myself sternly this year that I was going to DO IT and not make any more excuses, and was doing REALLY well, going three days a week and doing 10 minutes on the stair climber, followed by another 20-30 minutes with the machines…for like, 3 months…and then I was away for two weeks and didn’t go, and now I can’t get up the ambition to do it. FML.
